At Blakehill Primary, we recognise the significant contribution of PE to the physical and mental health and well-being of all children. We aspire to inspire inspire a generation of young people lead physically active lives and who work together as part of a positive team, encouraging each other to succeed.
We provide an innovative, exciting and broad PE and curriculum and extra-curricular activities which impact and influence pupils' resilience, motivation, attitude and aspiration.
In doing this we equip our pupils with skills and knowledge that attribute to holistic future lifestyle where health and wellbeing is paramount.
Our Physical Education offer provides pupils with a broad and rich curriculum.
We ensure that our children are able to regularly and consistently access a strong physical curriculum prescribed by the National Curriculum; allocating at least two hours per class weekly.
An indoor and an outdoor session of PE is allocated to each class per week. These lessons are primarily taught by the school's PE coach , the school's PE lead teacher or a class teacher. All lessons are supported by a teaching assistant.
In 2022, we appointed a sports and personal development officer. Mr Lumb works with the PE team to seek out opportunities that far exceed the PE Curriculum , further enhancing and extending our curriculum offer.
We provide a wide range of opportunities so that children are able to gain transferable skills for the five areas of activity (Games, Gymnastics, Dance, OAA and Swimming) as outlined in the Primary National curriculum for PE. Children are able to do this through their physical education and school sports offered after school. Mr Sugden, who leads PE throughout school, works closely with all staff to ensure a high quality curriculum is delivered to all children at Blakehill.
Our PE team are strong and highly skilled and have a clear and ambitious vision for PE at Blakehill. They continue to support school staff in providing excellent physical education lessons, mentoring and coaching staff and modelling best practice.
Our U11 boy's football team represented Bradford in the Utilita Cup in the final at Wembley stadium in July 2024.
