Wow...what a morning to wake up to!
Today we would like you to spend time making lots of happy memories playing in the snow! We have also added some activities linked to this weeks learning for you to have try. Any work completed should be sent to our home learning email: receptionhomelearning@blakehillprimary.co.uk
Whilst outside think about everything you can see around you. Focus on the colours (lots of white today, but look for others too!)
Activity:
Can you identify things that we can see outside in winter, think how some things change as the seasons change. Think about the colours of the season and create a drawing of things that you can see on a winter walk.
Take a look at the attached video for further support.
Challenge from Mrs Marsden...
Can you make a snow sculpture, perhaps something different to a snowman? She would love you to get creative, could you add food colouring/paint to the snow to create your design? We can't wait to see what you get up to! make sure you send any photos in as she would like to make a whole school display of your creations!
Edie and her little sister have had a busy morning!
Message from Edie's Daddy:
Edie and Maisie have spent the morning playing in the snow! After familiarising ourselves with the cold snow, we made snow angels and then we built a snowman! Edie decided we needed some arms so we went on a walk around the village to find something suitable.
We all became a little distracted and instead of looking for arms we had a snowball fight followed by a hot chocolate to warm us up (Edie's very welcome suggestion)! All was not lost though, the cafe very kindly donated a carrot for our snowman's nose! On the walk back, Edie was making tunnels using the carrot as a spade, very inventive! We also searched for rocks that we could use for eyes and a mouth. After finding some white rocks, we spoke about colours and agreed that they weren't the best as people wouldn't see them against the white snow.
We then decided to build a chair next to the snowman so we (and any admiring passers by) could sit and look at our creation.
William has been busy making a snow castle for the king!
Message from Olek's mummy:
Olek has had lots of fun out in the snow today. He's taken great care in making spheres (snow balls), absolutely loved making so many snow angels, used a traffic cone to make shapes and made a giant snowball which turned into a snowman and a colourful snow castle.
Message from Navie's mummy:
Navie spent the day playing in the snow with her friends. We enjoyed building a snowman together followed by making a slide for the barbies to enjoy, Navie then decided to take on the challenge of making a cat like ‘her Solar’. Everyone helped to build it and they did a fantastic job!
Once nice and warm, Navie created a clay version of her cat whilst naming the correct mathematical words; ‘this is a sphere isn’t it mummy’.
Message from Rayna's mummy:
Rayna has been busy at her Nana's house building an arctic penguin
After going for a winter walk, she also drew some of the things she saw. She thought of some words to describe the different things she saw such as - Icey, spikey, tall and fluffy.
Rayna also had a good look around the house to find different 3D shapes.
Blake has been on a 3d shape hunt and made a huge snowman with her sisters!
‘The pencil case is a cylinder and the butter is a cuboid, a cuboid has 6 sides and a cylinder has 3, the top and bottom and then the smooth middle bit.
They are different because the cylinder is smooth and the cubes have corners but they can both be big and small’
