Welcome

 Welcome to 2H!

We are very much looking forward to working with you this year. The following information will help us to work together to support your child as fully as possible. Your child will soon be bringing home a curriculum overview that will give you some idea of the work we are covering this half-term.

If you would like to speak to a member of the Year 2 team please do not hesitate to contact us at any point in the school year. You can email they office and we will get back to you. You can also phone the school office and we will call you back as soon as possible. During drop off and pick up there will always be a member of staff on the Year 2 door until 8.55am too.

Our Class Mission Statement.

We have thought about what we want our classroom to be like and we have used these ideas to write our class mission statement. We will embed this mission and model it to other pupils around the school.

Our School Councillor is Luca.

They have a very important role to play in the successful running of the school. School councillors meet every week and discuss how they can make Blakehill even better!

Luca is the voice of 2H!

Entry to school on a morning

It is important that children arrive at school on time and we would ask that all children are ready to come into school at 8.45am each day. Children will enter via the door in the Key Stage One playground.

Please bear with us at the end of the day, as we see the children out one at a time. The children will finish school at 3:15pm. Please also let us know if your child is being collected by a different adult.

 Water Bottles

Please send your child to school each day with a named water bottle. This should contain plain water only. Water bottles are kept in the classroom and children are encouraged to use their water bottles throughout the day.

Snacks

Children are allowed to bring a snack in to have during morning playtime. This snack must be a piece of fruit or a healthy snack. Children are provided with fruit daily in KS1.

Home Reading

There will be daily opportunities to change Home Reading. When your child reads with you, please make a short comment in their Reading Record Book.

Please read with your child at home as often as possible, daily if you are able. We would ask that you please keep your child’s Reading Record Book in their book bag and send it into school every day.

 Homework

Reading - In addition to Home Reading, your child will be sent home work to support the Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling we are working on in school.

Spelling – Your child will continue to bring home spellings linked to work covered in school that week. These spellings will be explicitly taught and the children will embed this knowledge through a variety of spelling games. There will be a weekly test on a Friday.

Please find more information about our spellings games on 2H's page under 'Spelling Games'

Maths (KIRFs)

In order to have rapid recall of number facts, your child will be sent home some maths facts every week to develop fluency. Please practise these with your child as regularly as possible at home.

Homework Projects

Each half-term the children will have the opportunity to complete a homework project linked to the current curriculum. We have had some amazing projects in the past and hope that as many children as possible will submit a piece of work.

Projects can take the form of a model, a piece of writing, research on the computer or artwork. This half-term we are inviting children to work on a project linked to our topic of Saltaire and Sir Titus Salt. We are hoping to visit Saltaire later this half-term.

Uniform - Reception and KS1

What a child wears to school reflects his/her attitude to learning; it portrays the school’s ethos and shared values. We have a very simple uniform that pupils are required to wear:

  • White polo shirt/shirt
  • Charcoal (dark grey) trousers / skirt / dress
  • Charcoal (dark grey) shorts
  • A blue and white checked dress may be worn in the summer months (optional)
  • Navy blue jumper / cardigan with school logo (logo optional)
  • Black shoes
  • Black/white socks or tights
  • Trainers can be worn for PE and at break times. Shoes or pumps should be worn in school at all times

 PE Kit

Please ensure that your child has their full PE kit in school. Please make sure that all kit is clearly named. PE sessions in Year 2 are as follows:

2H – Indoor  - Wednesday afternoon

        Outdoor - Friday afternoon

Finally, if there is anything you are unsure of, please come and ask. After school is usually most convenient as mornings can tend to be very busy.
