History - WWII
In history today we discussed what we thought war was and then learnt about the start and the end of the war. We created a list of questions which we would like ask Winston Churchill, the children then asked their questions to Winston Churchill.
DT - Today we looked how leaver and linkage systems work in pop-up books. The whole class were really interested in how these brought the books alive. We then discussed the different things we could see, feel and make move.
Session 1 - We looked at a range of pop up books looking at the different mechanisms.
Session 2 - We practiced making different pop ups.
Session 3 - We designed pop up books based on WWII.
Session 4 (DT day) - Children created their pop up books.
Session 5 - Evaluation. We evaluated our final products looking at what went well and areas that we could improve.
ICT - This half term we are looking at audio production. The children have learnt how to record their voice, edit and add background music. Keep your eyes peeled for our big outcomes.
Science - Today we identified appliances that were battery operate and mains operated. We thought about appliances we would find at home. Children then sorted these into the appropriate category.
PE - In PE we continued to look at hockey. We introduced a slap pass. Children then used the slap pass and previous skills taught in a fun game at the end.
Science - conductors and insulators.
Today we were looking at insulators and conductors. The children could experiment with different objects in the classroom to see if they were conductors or insulators. As a class we then discussed the properties of the objects we test where we came to the decision that different types of metals are good conductors.
ICT - here is an example of a finished podcast. Children added in different layers in, this is something they were really proud of making.
PSHE - It’s great to be me! Today we had a visit from Harold the giraffe where we learnt message we are all okay and that our differences
Science - In science we look at different switches where we discussed how a switch needed to be able to conduct electricity but also have an insulator
Science - Today, we looked at what happens to the particles in an ice cube as they heat up. The children took it in turn to lead thier group to explain what happens to the particles when they heat up. Some key words were solid, liquid, gas, vibrate, glide, holds it shapes, fill the container it's in and free flowing.
Flat Stan - We were luck to have Simon come into school to deliver first aid workshops with our children. Simon was from Flat Stan who provide first aid workshops for children. The children really enjoyed the workshop and took some key messages home.
Science - Melting.
Today the children investigated melting. Who could melt their ice block to retrieve the fortune statement the quickest without breaking it or cutting it.
We then discussed what the particles looked like at different stages
Science - Melting.
The children were given the question 'Will ice melt fast in room temperature air or room temperature water?' We then made predictions based on what they children already have learnt. We then closely observed how the ice cubes change and which one melted the quickest.
