PE - Gymnastics
LO: To perform a range of actions with control and coordination. 
LO: To combine ways of travelling, balancing and stillness using both the floor and apparatus
 
Year 2 had a fantastic first gymnastics lesson today. They worked brilliantly in pairs and in small groups and performed a range of actions demonstrating good control.
Science - Living Things
LO To explore and compare the differences between things that are living, dead, and things that have never been alive.
Children were very eagle-eyed today and went on a hunt around the school grounds in search for living things! They turned over logs, looked through tunnels, examined leaves and trees around them  too! They made a list on their whiteboards ready to discuss back in class. 
English - Hot seating

Today the took part in an exciting lesson and pretended to be Flat Stanley. They took it in turns to role play and answer questions from their friends. They were fantastic at getting into character and really thought about Stanley's personality too.
 
Spellings - ay / a_e /a/ ai/ eigh
 
The children loved looking at all the alternate ways of making 'ai' sound. They concentrated really hard and explored the different spellings patterns. They played a 'clear the board' to embed their learning.

The children learnt some key shapes today in their PE lessons and worked well in a team to lead the shape sequences. They made sure their toes were pointed and their arms were straight too.
Maths - Place Value
LO: To flexibly partition numbers
 
In Maths 2G have been learning about place value. Overs the past week they have been exploring the value of numbers looked closely at tens and ones using lots of different resources to help them. We explored tens and ones.
 
Today, children dug deeper with their learning and explored different ways of presenting a number using tens and ones. The base then was a great resource for the children to use and explore alternate ways.
English - Sentence types (Phase 3)
LO: To recognise different sentences types.
 
The children used their class reader 'Flat Stanley' to search for the 4 different sentence types: statement, question, exclamation, command.
They played four corners to embed their new learning too.
PE - Outdoor 
We have been working hard during our outdoor PE sessions with Mr Brigg. 
Art Sketching 
 LO: To develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space
In Art, the children have been researching about David Hockney with Mrs Marsden.  They have learnt interesting facts and had a go at sketching him too. 
Parent Reading Cafe 
 
2G have kicked off their week with parents joining them in a reading session before school. The children shared a book with their grown up and taught them how to play roll and read.
Music with Mrs Marsden
LO: To explore the beat
2G loved their music lesson with Mrs Marsden. They explored the beat.
Maths 
LO: To estimate numbers on a numberline.
Children enjoyed testing one another using concrete objects and their knowledge of place value. This helped them embed previous learning in our last maths lessons! They thought really carefully about place value and what the intervals on the numberline represented. 
PE - Indoor 
Gymnastics 
2G have been learning how to travel in different ways using their bodies effectively. They looked carefully at creating different body shapes and moved at different speeds. Miss Gardner spotted some brilliant, camel, frog, rabbit and crab movements.
Singing with Miss Dunn
2G absolutely LOVED their first session with Miss Dunn! They had lots of fun using their voices!
Art - LO: To draw from observation (Drawing) 
2G  were very enthusiastic in their art lessons and enjoyed drawing David Hockney linking to our History unit!
English- Freeze Frames (Phase 2)
2G enjoyed their freeze frame lessons today and re-enacted parts of the story. They carefully thought about characters feelings and thoughts.
English/History
Children enjoyed reflecting on their topic knowledge of Mary Seacole and wrote it down on their chocolate bar. They then snowballed all their expert ideas to their peers.
Maths - Counting in 3s
LO: To count in 3
Exploring is a great way of learning in 2G! The children used rekenreks and cubes to help them count up in threes. This helped them to embed their knowledge.
PSHE - Relationships
LO: To recognise different emotions and how they may be displayed differently by people. 
Children played a game called 'Charades' today. They took it in turns to be back to back. The third member of the group showed a card and the children showed their emotion through their body/actions. This activity helped children to understand that we all show emotions differently.
 
PE - Gymnastics 
This was an exciting PE lesson whereby the children loved working in groups and practised partners balances. They worked excellently together and listened carefully to one another. Some superb T-Bridges and Frontal Straddle. Well done!
Art/History 
LO: To draw using a range of lines and sketching
After studying Mary Seacole in our English lessons, the children reflected on what kind of a person she was. Thinking carefully about what they have learnt, they came up with words to describe her.

Computing- Digital Photography 
2G have been discussing which pieces of technology can take photographs and which can't. They have learnt how to take an effective photograph and how to focus the camera on an object too!  The selfie was definitely one of their favourites!
