Reading
In our reading, we spend time every week developing our vocabulary understanding skills. Where possible, we highlight our text and discuss ideas with our classmates to deepen our understanding.
Science: Rocks and Soils
We are learning that not all rocks are the same. We are learning how they are different and how this links to how they are formed. We are exploring their different properties and developing our scientific enquiry skills. We are also learning that not all soils are the same.
Maths: Place Value
We are beginning Year 3 by developing our understanding of basic number knowledge. This begins with place value. We use base ten to help us understand this practically before using this in our work.
PE: Striking and Fielding
In our striking and fielding unit this half term, we are learning the basic skills of teamwork, communication, throwing and catching to be successful.
We have watched GB women's rounders team and an American baseball game to see how these skills work in practise.
We have played Chuck the Chicken to develop our teamwork skills. We learnt that we needed to communicate and be responsive to be successful.
We played Whacky Baseball to develop our throwing and catching skills. We learnt that we needed to develop our accuracy in order to stop our opponent scoring points.
PE: Invasion Games
We have bee learning the different skills involved in invasion games and built upon the skills we learnt in striking and fielding.
Computing: Animation
In computing, we have been exploring using stopMotion to create an animation. We have learnt that we can sequence frames, use an onion skin to make sure our frames don't jump and now we are planning our own animation.
Art: Drawing
Art: Brush strokes
DT: Sewing
We took advantage of the opportunity to create things for our loved ones in the festive season. We learnt that we can use paint brushes in different ways to create different effects. We learnt that we could stipple pain to create a snowy, textured effect. We explored using our brush strokes to create different effects. We learnt that the way we loaded paint onto our brushes and the direction we held and moved our brush affected the look it created. We then combined this learning in order to create a christmas card combining techniques.
We combined our drawing learning of tone and texture to create a sketch of Thornwick Bay. Having practised with thumbnail sketches, we decided whether we wanted to create a full sketch of the whole landscape or focus on one part of it. We used different texture skills to show the different textures found on the coast. We used different tone to make our sketches feel less 2D and to add important features such as a crack in the cliff face. We used these sketches to create a calendar to take home.
In DT we explored examples of bookmarks, considered how they were made, designed our own bookmark and then used different stitches to create a bookmark. we learnt a variety of stitches: running stitch, half cross and full cross stitch.
