Spring Term

***Home Reading Super Stars***

Well done to our pupils who have moved onto the next level of their reading reward charts! Keep up the great work with home reading.
Spring Term Prefects
Congratulations to our new prefects! Our prefects set the expectations for behaviour in and around school, supervising our corridors during the transition to and from assembly to ensure our pupils across school are following our school rules.
Spring 2
Writing
LO: To use direct and indirect speech to advance action.

Within writing, we have continued to explore our book 'Journey to the River Sea'. We have worked closely on how we can included direct and indirect speech within our writing. We have made full use of 'dilemma wheels' as these have allowed us to plan our narratives in a more structured way. The children have seen a significant improvement in their writing!
The Hobbit

What a treat we had today! As part of the celebrations for World Book Day, Key Stage 2 were treated to a theatrical performance of J.R.R. Tolkin's The Hobbit. Pupils were able to enjoy the story of The Hobbit brought to live in front of their eyes. With fantastic scenery and brilliant acting pupils were completely immersed.

Art

As we are looking at the Amazon rainforest across writing and topic, we decided to explore Frida Kahlo within our art lessons. The children have had opportunities to explore the her work through research and attempting some of her work. We most recently looked at our use of watercolour and are currently in the process of creating leaf art.
Spring 1
Punjabi Roots Workshop
Science
Electricity

To introduce our new Science topic we played a game of pass the buzz. We couldn't understand at first why some people broke our chain and stopped the "buzz" from moving around the circle, however some of us were able to soon realise what was happening - our circuit was being broken and there was no "path" for the buzz to continue much like in an electrical circuit the current can not continue around if the circuit is not complete.

We also began to explore circuits and worked in small groups to build a simple circuit. We will move the learning forward in the coming weeks as we will explore parallel and series circuits.
PE
L.O - Uphold the spirit of fair play and respect in all competitive situations.
L.O - Dribble a ball with control, consistency and purpose.

In PE the main purpose of our games was to test our teamwork and our control, every game we participated in revolved around encouragement and support to benefit our peers to give our team a higher chance of success. Our control was challenged when did the basketball game as we only had 1 dribble attempt to try reach a cone to then try win a point for our team.
Maths games
L.O - To design and create a maths game suitable for Year 6 pupils.

We worked in small groups to create a variety of math's games which could be used in class as morning activities. The children worked hard to design, plan and then create their games and we had some fantastic outcomes. We had: Snakes and ladders, Mathopoly, Maths Game of Life and a whole lot more!
Writing
L.O - To use imaginary to describe a storm at sea.

In Writing, we introduced our new book 'Journey to the River Sea' which is about a child who travels to the Amazon Rainforest in order to find her lost relatives. We wrote a piece of work on the storm the ship encountered on its journey and the children worked really hard to incorporate the variety of Year 6 writing features within their work.
Computing
Creating a 3D model

In computing, we have combined out topic lessons (The Mayans) and used the 3d Modelling software 'Tinkercad'. The children need to plan and design a 3D Mayan temple. The results were brilliant and they had a great time in the process!
The Hobbit
